And it's done

Notice my beautifully aligned pepper plants
And so the journey ends here. One of the best summative ideas for this class if I do say so myself. A summative is supposed to incorporate all your gained and acquired knowledge on the subject of the course. A summative is supposed to be an example of how your course can be presented in a 'real life' scenario, which is exactly what this did. It taught me making a difference doesn't mean I need to be rich, doesn't mean I need to have tons of time, it just means dedication, and a reason for doing so. This time my reason was a forced reason, but the continuation of my garden shows its something more. In reflection I realized that I am angry about the Monsanto food corporation. I am angry that they think they can take charge of all the the food keeping us alive, and killing us. Although I cant grow my own soybeans (I am a vegetarian, Lentils for Life <3) I can grow something. I have a bit larger backyard then Colin Beaver did( haha). I planted red and yellow peppers, carrots, lettuce, peas and beans. This season I'll be able to grow about 200 beans, 200 beans, 15 heads of lettuce, and 5 dozen carrots. SO the food corporation can suck my (I wont finish my sentence.) Even past my three weeks, I haven't bought Starbucks. During the summer I am sure I will buy some Starbucks, all cold drinks though, and their cold drink cups are all plastic. I'm not entirely sure at what number it's recyclable, but it's something I can look into, im assuming it's a number one. Making this change in my lifestyle has showed my that sometimes by reducing my impact *physically* on Earth, can be simply stated by 'buying less'.  Living without television, would have to be a period without internet connection as well I believe to truly make a difference. I sacrificed some of my t.v time up for gardening, but most of my extra time I spent either organizing Relay For Life 2011, or on the computer. Buying 'Green' only cleaning products was a bit of a side note, their not completely green, as in I didn't make them myself. This was the most challenging because when my dad did groceries he didn't really care or remember, so this one wasn't a complete success. We also needed way more then three weeks to completely turn over our cupboards into green products, because throwing out the other products would just be a huge waste. Overall this summative was a success, I put alot of effort into it, and will continue my garden for years on end now.
So I hope everyone else's summative's went as well as mine did :)

Win at lowering CO2 footprint, Fail at savingt time

With every summative, you must learn some knowledge to keep for yourself. Other then the obvious (gardening skills etc) through this summative I was hoping to learn a little time management. I was hoping I would be able to have more time since I wasn't watching television or going to Starbucks. That although didn't seem to happen. Gardening takes much more skill and time then I had initially thought. I have spent more time gardening then i would have watching television! Well that might be a lie, since I used to spend allot of time watching all the  best television shows on the box. Basically, One Tree Hill, The Office, Modern Family, How I met your mother, Big Bang Theory, Glee, King of Queens and much much more. I did though spend allot of time gardening. Anyway what I meant to say was I procrastinated just as much on the computer (www.imgfave.com) I would suggest the tumblr site, except there's some pretty brutal photos occasionally, but most fall under the catagorie of awesome. I was happy to watch television again though, once i let myself watch tv again, it was a haven. In One Tree Hill, I found out Brook was pregnant (which is crazy since she was going to adopt because the doctors told her she couldn't get pregnant). I although did enjoy having the challenge to not watch t.v. And honestly, after the initial pain of digging up the gardening area, i found gardening quite calming and soothing.

So this is my last blog about my Environment and Resource Management summative! :( now to the conclusion

Growing Plants

So its been a while now since I first planted my plants, and so far they are all doing terrific, except for my looser plants shown in my YouTube video. As i explained, one seems to be a very slow grower, which is lame. As for the other, I feel as though the seed has been jacked from the container. It could have been stolen  by a squirrel or something. It although still has time to grow a bit (if it has a seed) before I plant them. I dont want to plant them when their too fragile. I just planted my two pepper plants into my garden though. My mom and I attempted to make a video of me planting the first one (the planting of the next 5 is rather repetitive).
The YouTube link is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CcK4WaFnWEM
Here are some photos of me gardening!

I will let you know when I plant my beans into the garden. :)

Video Blog

So I thought a promising video esk blog would be a bit intriguing. So that's what I did. I even created a youtube account for this, also very promising. I obviously had trouble filming myself, so it's good thing this isn't some sort of filming computer class.

So this first link I believe is me talking about my lovely plants.

And the second link though is me watering my plants, so as you can tell it will be very interesting to watch.

The evil windstorm

So its been a while since I have last blogged, but last week there was a pretty big windstorm on Thursday I believe. In my backyard I have this gazebo type thing with a table and chairs on the inside, and on the outside of my gazebo i have a few of my potted plants, and with this wind storm my gazebo fell on my potted plants, which was tragic because it broke my pots and the soil and seeds feel out, and the roots got tasseled around. So I dont have much hope for those plants anymore, but I will keep you updated! My carrots also started to sprout biggger, and I have one bean plant that is just about the same size as the pepper plant. My dad also planted to tomatoe plants today so that's exciting news in our garden. I'm still watering my plants once a day, and next weekend I am going to plant them in the soil. I am though a bit afraid to disturb their roots, so i was going to dig holes in the soil, and then plant them. I will read another self-help gardening book and figure out what to do.
Well that's it for today, a video will be uploaded soon! :)
